We took our 6 & 7 year old sons down fall creek from 79th street bridge to a roadside park near Joe O'Malias grocery store at Emerson Ave & 56th street. The shuttle for the trip was along fall creek parkway which was scenic in itself. Parking at the put-in was on the northeast side of the 79th street bridge and had parking for about 5 cars. The flow was slow and the river current was too but we had fun. Lots of mommy ducks with ducklings, canadian geese and their young ones and of course a blue herron or two. We saw little trash on the banks, but ended up with 3 balls and an electric fan. 3 guys in kayaks were also picking up trash and they were the only other people we saw on the river. While going through Fort Benjamin State Park, we did see many fishermen and families playing in the creek. The falls before interstate 465 had to be dragged over, but may be passable at higher levels in the center. Amazingly fun trip for being so close to home.
The river level on this day was about 75 cfs and 2.1 feet on the millersville guage.
