Website user Joan Bullock recently submitted the following trip report:
There is a very dangerous tree fall about 1/4 mile downstream from the Wildcat Park Access. It has a very strong undertow. Last week, I saw a raft under it, and this week, we tipped a canoe that had to be freed by chainsaw. The branch that was freed got stuck in the logjam and now you cannot pass through that point without taking out your boat or raft. _________________ www.IndianaOutfitters.com

On July 22, 2007 a friend of ours told us they paddled through this section of the Wildcat and found no logjam blocking the river. They said they saw where the raft was stuck in a logjam, but it was out of the current, and they had no trouble floating past. _________________ www.IndianaOutfitters.com

We just ran this section on Sunday August 3, 2008.
wildcat park is right at the confluence of the north and south fork of wildcat creek. Just downstream of there is a bit of a tricky spot, but it is technically passable. The current was strong under a logjam at 150 cfs on the http://www.wildcatcreek.net/current_streamflow/
There are a couple of other spots that had similar strong flow under an obstruction. Inexperienced paddlers or rafters/tubers should consider banking and walking past the obstruction. |
