Normal average depth of the Iroquois is 3ft. to 6ft. in Jasper County and a little deeper as it flows through Newton County and in to Illinois.
The last few weeks the rain has caused the river to spill over at depts of 10ft or more. Fishing is out of the question. As far as taking a canoe trip on it, I would advise caution as the Iroquois is moving fast and is full of unseen underwater dangers such as whole trees reaching from bank to bank and more. Older Giant Cottonwood Trees took some heavy dammage last winter due to ice storms causing these giants to fall. So be carefull! |
