We just got back from a trip down the Vernon fork of the Muskatatuck river. We put in at the bridge where 400W crosses the river. You can get there from US 50 by turning south on 450 W and following the signs for the church. We pulled off the side of the road right near the top of the bridge. There are large rocks on the roadside farther back so that is really about the only place to pull off. We had 1 canoe with three people in it. The river was high for this time of year, or we wouldn't have gotten far. The Vernon guage said 222 cfs and 3.5' depth. We traveled down to the overpass where 31 crosses the river. There is a nice little turnoff on the south side of the bridge where you can park and a rocky ledge where you can pull the canoe out. You have to haul it up a rocky hill, but it is not too tall or steep. The trip took us 6-1/2 hours to travel about 13-1/2 miles. The river was full of snags and logs to manuever around. I don't know if it is worse because of last winter's storms or if it is always like this. In two places, logjams completely blocked the river and we had to drag the canoe over or around. Everywhere else we managed to get through, though there were a couple of tight spots. Most of this trip is through farmland, but you don't notice it much because the river is lined with trees. The last part follows the border of the nature preserve.

Pulling the canoe through a logjam.
