|My favorite stretch of this river is between Newville and Spencerville. There is usually a decent flow, albeit slow.
It is quite picturesque in that there are few farm fields that breach the riparian area and nothing but small towns along this course. Plenty of woods and minimally developed riverbank. Snags aren't usually a problem here.
There is an old mill dam just inside Spencerville. Depending on the water level, you can't get over it. the Covered Bridge is just below the dam.
The rest of the river is quite nice, but when you get to the impoundment areas of the Cedarville Reservoir and the Ft. Wayne City Utilities and Hosey dams, the flow pretty much disappears.
If you're a fan of history, the stretch from Johnny Appleseed Park to the confluence has a good share of it.
