Just a quick note/update on river conditions and a recent trip. My son, his friend, and I traveled from Huntington to Americus during the July 4th week. We used Jerry Hay's Wabash River guide, which was generally very accurate and a huge help.

We started at the Huntington/Roush dam and camped just upriver from Hanging Rock on the first night, downriver from Rich Valley the 2nd night, downriver from Lewisburg the 3rd, in France Park downriver from Logansport the 4th, between Georgetown and Lockport the 5th, and upstream from Americus on the 6th. All campsites except for France Park were within the river banks. France Park was a bad call on my part, the campsite as about a mile from the river, but otherwise river sites worked really well. Water depth at Wabash was about 3 to 3.5 feet for the week.

We generally carried food for all 7 days, though we did pull over for a couple of McD's stops along the way. And, we resupplied bottled water several times.

Overall, I think the Wabash is one of the most underrated outdoor experiences this side of the Mississippi.[/img]

Sounds like a good trip. I have a question: what did you do about fuel for cooking?

We used a small portable propane tank like this one - www.dickssportinggoods.com/product/index.jsp?productId=4054432&cp=4406646.4413993.4418095

Works like a charm, takes 2 minutes to set up, boil water in a pan, and add it to a freeze dried meal. We did the same thing for lunches (i.e. bowl of ramen noodles, some canned chicken to added protein, and add hot water).
